Major emerging intelligent technologies are rapidly redefining global business and society's development. This programme addresses the growing demand of technology talents in Hong Kong and facilitates students to enter the information technology industry by providing a concrete foundation of information technology knowledge and application development skills. The topics of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, database management and analytics, and computer programming languages will be covered to provide students with the latest development trend of the industry. The curriculum design emphasises on practicality; the students will have placement opportunities to experience the workplace requirements by tackling real business problems with technology solutions in real settings.

 

Programme Aims and Features

  • Provides students with generic skills and the ability to present and evaluate information;

  • Equips students with knowledge and skills in the technological field, including computer programming, networking and database, and technology application development, to perform skilled tasks and propose appropriate solutions;

  • Provides students with the latest development trend of the information technology industry in local and global contexts;

  • Enables students to acquire appropriate attitude and practical skills through practical experience and to appreciate the importance of professional standards and lifelong learning at the paraprofessional level;

  • Prepares students to progress to further studies towards a degree in the relevant fields.

Technology Placement

The Technology Placement provides a unique learning opportunity that enables students to integrate academic knowledge with first-hand practical experience. It broadens students’ horizons in an actual work setting where they could interact with professionals from the IT industry and learn to develop better communication and interpersonal skills and work ethics. It will also develop and refine students’ employability skills, engage them in career development activities and support them to adopt a reflective approach to learning.

Professional Recognition

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy

AWS academy

The College has become a member institution of AWS Academy, a programme offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It provides higher education institutions with ready-to-teach curriculum, helping students acquire cloud computing skills and widely recognised certifications, and preparing them to pursue career in IT industry.

Full Subsidy of Examination Fee

Upon successful completion of the cloud computing course in the curriculum, HPSHCC students are eligible to take the examination of Amazon Web Services. The College will fully subsidise the examination fee.


Check Point

Check Point

The College also has become the SecureAcademy of Check Point. Their mission is to provide global education on Cyber Security by partnering with colleges and continuing education institutions. They also encourage institutions to collaborate with Check Point to prepare today’s students with the vital technology skills needed to protect our future. 

 

Career Prospects

Our graduates are prepared to take up positions in the Information Technology fields at the paraprofessional level in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

2-year Higher Diploma Programme

  • Obtain Level 2 or above in 5 subjects*§ including English Language, Chinese Languageand Mathematics in HKDSE, or equivalent; OR
  • Hold a recognised Diploma in Foundation Studies Programme; OR
  • Hold a Diploma Yi Jin; OR
  • Hold a Diploma of Applied Education; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications will be considered by the College.

Applicants whose HKDSE results do not meet the entry requirements of the 2-year Higher Diploma programme should apply for admission to the Diploma in College Foundation Studies (DCFS) programme.

 

Diploma in Foundation Studies Programme

  • Obtain Level 1 or above in English Language and Chinese Language# in the HKDSE Examination, AND at least 6 points+ in the best 5 subjects*^§; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications will be considered by the College.

 

Mature Students

Applicants who do not possess the above academic qualifications, but are aged 21 or above and with relevant work experience will be considered on individual merit.

 

*Applicants are allowed to use not more than 2 Applied Learning (ApL) subjects in the application. The recognition of the ApL subjects is as follows:

“Attained with Distinction (II)” is deemed equivalent to Level 4 or above;
“Attained with Distinction (I)” is deemed equivalent to Level 3; and
“Attained” is deemed equivalent to Level 2 in the HKDSE Examination.

#ApL Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) would be accepted as an alternative Chinese Language qualification.

§ If one of the five HKDSE subjects is Citizenship and Social Development, the requirement will be “Attained” for the subject.

^ If the candidate has attempted less than 5 subjects but obtained 6 points or above, the application will still be considered.

+ Level 5** = 7 points; Level 5* = 6 points; Level 5 = 5 points; Level 4 = 4 points; Level 3 = 3 points; Level 2 = 2 points; Level 1 = 1 point.
