HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College Scholarship for New Programmes

 

In academic year 2022/23, the College provided a new scholarship as an encouragement to students who have passion to continue their studies in the field of information technology. The new admittees of this programme may receive the scholarship award of HK$20,000 upon successful admission to the College.

Major emerging intelligent technologies are rapidly redefining global business and society's development. This programme addresses the growing demand of technology talents in Hong Kong and facilitates students to enter the information technology industry by providing a concrete foundation of information technology knowledge and application development skills. The topics of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, database management and analytics, and computer programming languages will be covered to provide students with the latest development trend of the industry. The curriculum design emphasises on practicality; the students will have placement opportunities to experience the workplace requirements by tackling real business problems with technology solutions in real settings.

 

Programme Aims and Features

  • Provides students with generic skills and the ability to present and evaluate information;

  • Equips students with knowledge and skills in the technological field, including computer programming, networking and database, and technology application development, to perform skilled tasks and propose appropriate solutions;

  • Provides students with the latest development trend of the information technology industry in local and global contexts;

  • Enables students to acquire appropriate attitude and practical skills through practical experience and to appreciate the importance of professional standards and lifelong learning at the paraprofessional level;

  • Prepares students to progress to further studies towards a degree in the relevant fields.

Technology Placement

The Technology Placement provides a unique learning opportunity that enables students to integrate academic knowledge with first-hand practical experience. It broadens students’ horizons in an actual work setting where they could interact with professionals from the IT industry and learn to develop better communication and interpersonal skills and work ethics. It will also develop and refine students’ employability skills, engage them in career development activities and support them to adopt a reflective approach to learning.

Programmes offered by overseas universities

Graduates are also eligible to apply for admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other IT-related disciplines offered by overseas universities:

  • Part-time, 2-year, BSc (Hons) Cyber Security offered locally by the University of Plymouth(UK) in collaboration with HKU SPACE;
  • Part-time, 2-year, BSc (Hons) Computer Network and Security offered locally by the Middlesex University (UK) in collaboration with HKU SPACE.

 

Professional Recognition

Students can take the examination of AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate. The examination fee can be fully subsidised by the College.
 

 

Career Prospects

Our graduates are prepared to take up positions in the Information Technology fields at the paraprofessional level in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

2-year Higher Diploma Programme

  • Obtain Level 2 or above in 5 subjects* including English Language, Chinese Languageand Mathematics in HKDSE, or equivalent; OR
  • Hold a recognised Diploma in Foundation Studies Programme; OR
  • Hold a Diploma Yi Jin; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications will be considered by the College.

 

Mature Students

Applicants who do not possess the above academic qualifications, but are aged 21 or above and with relevant work experience will be considered on individual merit.

 

 

*Applicants are allowed to use not more than 2 Applied Learning (ApL) subjects in the application. The recognition of the ApL subjects is as follows:

“Attained with Distinction (II)” is deemed equivalent to Level 4 or above;

“Attained with Distinction (I)” is deemed equivalent to Level 3; and

“Attained” is deemed equivalent to Level 2 in the HKDSE Examination.

 

#ApL Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) would be accepted as an alternative Chinese Language qualification.
