Experiential Learning (Bone Density Screening Programme by The HK Academy of Pharmacy)
04 Dec 2017
In November 2017, a number of students of the Higher Diploma programme in Medical and Health Products Management participated in the Bone Density Screening Programme organized by the HK Academy of Pharmacy. The whole programme of activities was conducted on different dates at selected local communities in Hong Kong. Below are two sharings from our student participants:
"We were assigned to operate a bone density ultrasound scanner and to record the result of each participant for further analysis. Apart from gaining practical experience in operating an ultrasound machine, we also learnt much about risk and potential danger in osteoporosis patients from the talks conducted by the resident occupational therapist and physiotherapist."
"During the event, we were able to operate an ultrasound wave machine to give general reading on people’s bone density. We could use the result of T-score obtained to determine whether the person was having the risk of osteoporosis and the result was recorded for statistical purpose."
