On 9 October 2014, 30 Year 2 students of the Higher Diploma in Medical and Health Products Management programme spent an afternoon visiting the pharmacy department of the Kwong Wah Hospital. After a warm welcome given by Ms. Catherine Chan, the Department Manager, Mr. Michael Lau, one of the Pharmacists, briefly introduced the hospital, its scope of service, the pharmacy department and the pharmaceutical services providing. Mr. Lau also explained how important the role a pharmacy department was in ensuring a successful drug therapy for a patient. The students were then led by Mr. Lau to tour around the pharmacy and observed the drug dispensing service, patient counselling service and aseptic drug compounding service. All students appreciated how the pharmacy staff worked efficiently to handle the extremely heavy workload of this very busy hospital / department. Undoubtedly, through this visit, the students understand more about the role and operation of a public hospital pharmacy and that may help them decide whether this field is suitable to them or not.
