Between 23 and 25 November 2018, about ten Year 2 students of HIgher Diploma programme of Medical and Health Products Management worked as student helpers at one of the booths in the “GERONTECH and Innovation Expo Cum Summit”. The aim of the Expo was to enhance public awareness on technology and innovation for the elderly and to encourage the development and adoption of relevant solutions in Hong Kong. Below are the sharings by two student helpers:
I participated in the Gerontech and Innovation Expo and assisted in the booth of Pro-Med Technology. There were machines to test the abilities of elderly such as balancing, posture and reaction. I was assigned to operate a machine called Smartfit. It could calculate and recognise numbers and alphabets. It trained players' ability of reaction and cognitive functions which was very helpful to dementia patients. In this Expo, I learned about different equipment designed to facilitate elderlies in their daily activities.

It was my pleasure to participate in this event. I helped to measure body balance and to record the data of participants. Through interacting with the eldery, I learned how to explain information to them and understood more about their needs and limitation .
