In the summer of 2024, the College organised a study tour for students at the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus in Vancouver, Canada. Organised by the English Language institute at UBC (ELI), the 4-week program provided an immersive English language learning experience with a focus on developing global citizenship skills.
The study tour aimed to enhance students' English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while also exploring Canadian and international perspectives on civil society, global citizenship, and sustainability. It engaged students in discussions and activities related to critical global citizenship themes like society, media, and the environment, and sought to build their confidence and competence in collaborative group work and individual oral presentations. The learning environment incorporated a variety of instructional approaches to provide a flexible and engaging experience for the students.
The program featured approximately 27 hours of English instruction per week, allowing students to extensively practice and improve their communication abilities in a real-world, cross-cultural setting. Moreover, the English language institute arranged various activities such as a museum visit and downtown tour to enrich learners’ experience. By studying at the renowned UBC campus, participants could gain exposure to Canadian culture and the vibrant city of Vancouver.
