In January 2018, about 17 Year 1 & Year 2 students of the Higher Diploma in Medical and Health Products Management Programme served at a 3-day Expo titled “Golden Expo & Summit 2018” which was held at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. The target of this Expo was for people above 45 years old and their caretakers. There were numerous booths displaying advanced helping aids, dietary supplements, rehabilitation aids and financial planning advices. Our students assisted at one of the booths that provided free bone density screening and bone health advice to visitors. Here are the sharings from 3 students:
As a volunteer at the "Golden Age Expo & Summit 2018", I was able to use a machine to do quick measuring tests on the participants' bone density. We got the chance to perform the whole process from applying jelly on the foot of participants for ultrasound, operating the machines, to recording the scores. From this experience, I learned more about how it would be like when working in a health care setting.
I am thankful to have an opportunity to use ultrasound to check the bone density for the elderly and learned how to improve bone density after asking the lifestyle of people with good bone quality. To me, it was a meaningful experience.
Promoting health awareness to the public, particularly to the elderlies, is important. I look forward to participating in similar events in future.
