It is my honor and pleasure to study at the College. After studying two years at the College, I further affirmed my future career. This programme provides students with various courses related to social sciences such as psychology and sociology for foundation. In the second year, the programme provides related practical trainings and theories including editing skills and communication theories which help students to prepare well for further study or entering into the related fields. It definitely equips students with useful and fruitful skills no matter they want to further study or devote to the society.

I had a great time at the College over the past two years. The teaching method here is similar to University, all students are required to take initiative to learn and become independent. Life at the College is very fruitful; there are several field trips and visits in my programme. Thus, there are summer exchange programmes and also different academic projects which have broaden my horizons. Moreover, studying social sciences trains students’ critical thinking.

I particularly enjoy the study at the College, not just because of the well-equipped environment, but also having a wonderful time with the lecturers and schoolmates. The programme structure was great and suitable, for students were able to explore a broad-based knowledge of social sciences and allowed students to specialise in public relations and journalism. Lecturers engaged students to think critically and creatively. Through discussion, sharing and reflection with friends, it has given me more insight on academic study.

2013 Year 2, Bachelor of Science Education (Hons) (Sports Science), The Hong Kong Institute of Education
From my two years of joyful study at the College, I have gained not only knowledge from various lessons, but also friendship, leadership skills and practical skills. The programme truly helped me to pave the way to university as the lectures are not only interesting but lecturers are also passionate to teach more than the students expect. I feel thankful to have been given the chance to participate in the College activities as a class representative since this responsibility allowed me to become more mature while facing society. Besides, the participation in the newsletter provided me with a great chance to apply the theories which were learnt from the daily lectures, as well as experience the job duties of journalism.

At the College, we gained not only knowledge, but also a group of good lecturers, classmates and friends. The College provides a lot of opportunities to us including visiting newspaper corporations, TV stations and chatting with the chief editors. We can understand deeply about the media industry through these experiences. During the summer, students can also participate in study tours which are organised by the College to broaden their horizons.

When I failed my HKAL and entered the College, to be frank, I felt humiliated at that time. However, these two years turned out to be one of the most memorable moments I ever had in my life. I did not only meet friends whom I could spend my leisure time with and study together, I also experienced the study methods similar to the ones adopted in the university and the knowledge useful in my lifetime. Life at the College is not easy, nothing on this planet is. However, in the College, as long as you are willing to pay effort, you will receive a satisfactory harvest.

In the past two years, I have learnt much from the College. All my classmates, friends and lecturers are willing to help and support me when I have problems in lessons or achieving higher education. Also, the College provides a lot of event for us. I joined the Beijing-Tianjin exchange programme last year. I met a lot of friends and learnt many things from the trip which I cannot get it from lessons. The 2-year experience has not only given me a chance to enter university but also a space to understand myself and figure out my future path.

“It is not the end of the world as there is so much to be explored in the College! In the College you can find your direction, your motivation, your new-make friends and way too much precious memories.
Here you are not being spoon-fed by lecturers, but having daily lessons full of fun, discussions and reflection. Apart from theories, lecturers emphasised on self-engagement, cooperation and sharing experience. We can also gain life-long benefits from every single assignment (project or presentation), and the advice from our passionate lecturers too.”

2008–10 Associate of Applied Social Sciences in Communication, Public Relations and Journalism View Programme
2010 Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) offered locally by HKU SPACE Centre for International Degree Programmes (CIDP) in collaboration with The University of Western Australia
The past 2-year experience in the College had broadened my exposure and I had found my goal as well. I used to be passive, dependent and too timid to express my opinions in front of people. The learning mode in the College, with numbers of presentations and group projects in each semester, encouraged us to learn proactively, albeit this learning approach did give me a hard time at the beginning.
Now, I have already got used to this learning method. My friends, schoolmates, the Programme Leader, Dr. Chan or even my family all said that I had changed a lot -- becoming more outgoing and mature. Last but not least, the time in the College helped me adapt to the university life quickly. I would say the knowledge learnt from textbooks and all soft skills like time management, communication skills is of great usefulness throughout my life.

- Year 2, Bachelor of Sociology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The past two years was truly wonderful. The programme helped me to build a strong foundation in different fields of social sciences, and over time my interest towards communication studies and journalism grew as I really learnt a lot of things here. Not only the knowledge had we acquired in class but also the practical skills we developed. Besides, I loved the learning mode here as it was totally different from that in the secondary school. I became more active and independent, with which all these qualities were essential to either further my studies in university or fulfill my future career aspirations.

“Throughout the previous semesters, I have no doubt learnt a lot.
Under the guidance of the professors, not only has our understanding of Social Sciences, such as Sociology and Psychology, deepened, our abilities of critical thinking, analytical skills and presentation techniques have also been greatly improved.
Besides, all the extra-curricular activities definitely broadened our horizons. The excursion to Pacific Coffee was a fine learning experience. We were given the opportunity to chat with foreigners and the staff there. We felt much more confident in our spoken English.
At the talk given by the Police, the negotiation specialists shared their experiences and fascinating cases with us. We had learnt various useful negotiation and communication skills.
Moreover, I was able to participate in the Beijing Olympics as a volunteer under the school’s recommendation. It was a once-in-a-life-time opportunity.”
